Struggling With Low Self-Esteem? Here’s How Mindfulness Can Help You

If you’re suffering from low self-esteem, or know of someone suffering from this condition, you will know that the constant feelings of inadequacy, incompetence and inferiority, among others, can be overwhelming. While there is no instant cure to low self-esteem, there are very effective tools you can use, like mindfulness, to help you see yourself more objectively. Here are some mindfulness considerations you can start making today:

  • Live in the moment

Mindfulness is all about living in the moment. Don’t focus on what happened in the past, or put something off for tomorrow. Instead, focus on today, and take action without concerning yourself about yesterday, or tomorrow.

  • Become aware

Observe your feelings and reactions to them, instead of just being caught up in their wake. Focus on creating a moment of clear thinking between your emotions and your actions, which will allow you to respond in a more objective and clear way.

  • Acceptance first

It’s easy to think you should stop judging yourself. Instead, accept yourself for who you truly are, without judgement. Each and every one of us will go through a range of experiences throughout our lives. See these events for what they are, and look at your actions with acceptance.

This will help you to realise that there is nothing you can do about the past, but you can accept what has happened, to learn from it, and focus on being what you want to be in this very moment.

  • Learn more about yourself

When you start looking at your actions and emotions in a non-judgemental way, and focus on being aware of your feelings, you will start feeling connected to yourself. This means you will be able to see why you are doing or saying the things you are.Instead of reacting to other people’s expectations, start todo what is right for you.

  • Write about your feelings

It is a well-known fact that keeping a journal about your thoughts and feelings is a great way of delving deeper into our emotions. Writing also has the added benefit of giving you a place to evaluate your emotions and actions more objectively, and helps to remove the negativity of the emotion you felt in that moment.
